I have an Argo 8X8 and want to know what is the biggest outboard that I can put on it? I have a 15 HP newer two stroke that is pretty light. What is the biggest outboard anybody has put on their 8X8? How fast can I go in the water with lets say my 15 on this thing? Anybody have any experience with a bigger outboard?

bob,
9.9 is what the factory says is the highest you can go for hp. I use a 6 hp evinrude in my bigfoot and it pushes it at probably 8 mph. Make sure when you do hook up you outboard to have the bracket on the hitch so the motor pushes on the frame instead of the body. it will preform better in the water also with the hitch bracket.

Attex Bob,
Hi bob there is an equation that states that for a displacement hull (which aatv's are) there is a maximum speed no matter how much hp you add.
Now it makes sence that ODG engineers make the 9.9 hp recomendation based on this. I dont think the 15 would hurt but it sure wont make the atv go any faster than a 9.9. so use the 15 at half to three quarter power and get better fuel economy than a 9.9 going flat out.

i beleave odg had another equation in mind, the one that says a rear mounting serfis will give up and be damaged if you push the plastic to hard, dont forget the engine is mounted to a plastic hull,

David is right. the bracket that mounts to the hitch and cups the bottom of the outboard takes most of the stress off the body, but going with to much hp could mess the transom up and posibly the body. make sure you have that bracket on with any outboard.

Thanks everybody for the info. I think I will try Eugene's advise and try it out. I have never had my Argo in the water since I had it, so I don't know how stable it will be in water. I definitely won't think; if some is good, alot must be better!!!! I will have to go to the local Argo dealer and pick up the OBM mount. I will let you know how things work out after I do it.

I've got an Argo Response and am looking for any suggestions regarding a good outboard to use on it. I have a good outboard bracket that mounts to the transom and is also anchored to the trailer hitch. Any suggestions re long shaft/short shaft? Adequate horsepower? Weight?

The max horsepower that the machine is rated for is a 9.9. Remember though, you can change the carb, and bump up the power. I would go with a long shaft (thats what I am looking for.) Remember you have to sit back there with it to steer, so watch your weight ratings.
