I have been in the process of shopping for a new or used MAX IV for the past couple of months. I have had at least 1 dealer recommend a 2000 or newer MAX due to "major advancements" over the older models. Is he trying to steer me to purchase a new machine or are there major changes other than the square recessed headlights?

Thanks for any help.

The 2000 Max IV is a lot better than the 1999. The best improvement is the back seat room. The engine cover was redesigned to allow more leg room for passengers. Adults can comfortably sit in the back in the 2000 models. The new engine cover completely covers the engine so mud doesn't get thrown on it. It also has a new one piece sprocket upgrade on the back axles and a stronger engine/tranny support. Many pre-2000 Max IVs (mostly the 25hp) had enough torque to bend the tranny support or break a solid axle in half.
Go for the newest machine you can afford. The 25hp engine is worth the extra money.

the new max iv has more leg room in the back seat but your knees are agensed the plywood backing on the frount seat and it will wipe out your nees in 2 minuets, they should pad both sides of the frount seat,
