I just purchased a used '96 Max IV. I took the belt off to pull the engine and now I cannot get the belt back on. I needed to check all the linkages and adjust the chains. I didn't seem to have any power in reverse. I tightened the bands adjusters. Fluid level was good in the T20.
Does anyone have any tips for getting the belt back on? Richard said to peel it off, but there is no way I am going to be able to "peel" it back on. I don't see how this belt fits.

how did u get it off? i think you can just tilt engine and get back on with some help.

Does anybody know where to install a bilge pump in an Argo Conquest 8 x 8 ? I can't seem to find a spot where it will pick up water, below the frame. I have a 500 GPH pump; but it doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

HEY MICHAEL: first put your belt on the engine pulley...them put belt on T-20 PULLEY (UPPER PART) as far as possible....put t-20 on neutral or reverse and by hand turn t-20 pulley left ( forward) until belt set complete...if by hand is to hard start engine and fast idle until belt get inside t-20 pulley....

I think the centrifical clutch closed up. I have even taken the clutch off. The belt will not fit. Tilting the engine will not do it.

ken,
the stock bilge pump is normally placed on the floor pan inbetween the tranny and motor. it will not pump the water out from under the chains. I dont know the size of this pump you have but their should be enough room for it their. My dealer told me that this pump was a safety net if you out in the drink a ways and it will safely get you to shore if a leak is letting alot of water in. It has saved me a couple of times. when you get to dry land it is wise to pull the plugs so the left over water does not "wash" the chains. If you come up with some idea on how to get the water out of the chain wells with a pump let us know. good luck with your pump.

HEY MICHAEL: about your "allready activated" clutch start your engine on fast idle and with a SOFT WOOD stick press the center of clutch until it's open again..then with the wood stick on clutch ( to avoid clutch to close back) stop the engine.............

The clutch will close if the engine was run without a belt. Just put the belt on that clutch only and pull hard on the other end of the belt. It will slide down and pop the clutch open again. Then roll the belt on the tranny clutch just like you took it off.

I have seen clutches jamb fairly hard if run with no belt(ruined in cases of overrevving) With engine off you can try to tap it back with something that will not damage the surface.

HEY TIMOTHY:
if you try to "open" the clutch with engine stoped you can break it due to lateral uneven forces...but if you try it with engine turning on fast idle the pressure with the SOFT LUMBER will be "spread" ACROSS ALL SURFACE.......

hi isaac, what tim saw last sunday was me taping mine lightly as i turnd it,
i turned it and taped what i could to keep forces as even as posable and don't forget to watch out for your fingers in case of "snap back"
i was very cairful not to have it snap back on my fingers, the engine overeved due to a stuck throtle cable and destroid the belt as i whent down a steap hill,
i wouldent try the running method at that time,

aparently you try it on the hard way!!!
if you cann't turn the t-20 pulley with tranny in neutral probably your belt leight selection is to short...even if you "fit" that "short belt" you should have some traction between clutch and belt on idle...( hard to keep engine running at idle)...if your t-20 pulley work well it's supose to "open" (half pulley agains t-20)so when hand turning the belt should go deep inside the belt until complete fit inn....otherwise this pulley is jammed and need to be lube up!!!

hi ISAAC, NO I MENT THE ENGINE PULLY WAS STUCK AFTER THE ENGINE OVERREVED DUE TO STUCK THROTLE, I WAS DEEP IN THE WOODS AND JUST DID NOT HAVE TOO MANY OPTIONS, I HAD NO PROBLEM GETING THE NEW BELT ON AFTER I TAPED THE ENGINE PULLY CLOSED, NOW TO DO THAT I TURNED THE ENGINE PULLY SEVERAL TIMES AND LIGHTLY TAPED IT OPEN, YES I DID DENT THE EDGE SLIGHTLY BUT YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO WHEN YOUR OUT ON A TRAIL AND IT'S COLD AND SNOWING AND 12 OTHER VEHICLES ARE AT THE BOTOM OF THE HILL CALLING AT YOU "IS IT DONE YET"?
& "COME ON LETS GET GOIN"
NOW IF I TRYED A PIECE OF WOOD IT WOULD HAVE HELPED, I DIDENT SEE ONE THOUGH, I ONLY HAD A SPAIR AXEL, HEH HEH HEH, ALSO WHEN IT GOT CLOSE I DID PUT ON THE NEW BELT AND PULED IT TO POP THE PULLY HOME,
NORMALY IT TAKES FAR HIGHER REVES TO BLOW UP A BELT, MY ENGINE WASENT EVEN RUNNING VERY GOOD, BUT WITH THE BRAKES ONLY GOIN DOWN THE HILL IT MANEGED TO AQUIRE SOME REVES(IT WAS STUCK AT FULL)
AND ALSO THE T-20 WAS IN FORWARD SO THE TRANY PULLY WAS SPINING AS I WENT DOWN THE HILL, COULD BE I LET IT ROLL TOO FAST AS TO HASTEN THE TRIP TO THE POINT THAT I COULD MABY ENGAGE THE TRANY AND USE SOME OF THE POWER, ANY WAY AT A POINT ON THE HILL THE BELT VIOLENTLY CAULT IN THE T-20 PULLY AND WRAPED AROUND IT, POW NO MORE BELT!
BUT ON THE BRITE SIDE THE THROTLE STARTED WORKING RIGHT AGAIN, WEIRED HUH,

HEY SPILBERGER: hope that your balls return to your crotch area allready!! ( due to that scary full speed adventure!!)...when two cycles engines get on full throtle only full choke action will slow it down..even if you turn key off ( by grounding the coil's positive terminal ) engine remain working due to "extra" power from magneto...happens to me several moons ago with a kadoo....ends unhappy bouncing over a wood fence ( lucky me that was a lightly one!!)....yeah no pain no gain!!!thank aatv's god that you are alive and bouncing...so ready for more filming action????....

Isaac is right that putting a clutch back with the engine stopped needs to be done very easy and even but a friend lost 2 fingers in a running engine and now I always do anything with a stopped engine. I still drive a little crazy but am very carefull around a running engine.

HEY TIMOTHY: since the nature of remain "full closed" clutch is axial, spring driven force agains one side of the clutch is better to "return" this side to "full open" position with engine running ( due to the help of vibration, and axial force due to speed)...i understood your consern about finger closer to any moving machinery but you should use at least a 2 feet long SOFT LUMBER to press agains the inner clutch faces...with engine stopped you should go on opposed forces ( at 180% degree***one front one rear) to try to press back the closed side...and most of those centrifugal clutches are made of aluminium (light weight and fast heat transfer rate)so be aware to break this face with A SINGLE static (engine stop)force to open it.........

yes ISAAC, i thanked that AATV god.
i thanked the AATV god my engine was running like shit, cause if it were helthy it would have bin a realy dangeros perdikerment,
however i was more anoid at the situation than scaird,reves wernt high enoph to be very scairy,
due too the:
"bin there done that- school of aatving"
i could have shut it down but was trying too unstick it,
instead i had too chaing a belt, last time i had one stick it took off like lightning and i had a newbi pasenger on board too, i soon had no-place too go and i was tryin too shut it down but no way was it stoping!
(the choke was broke)
thats back when i blew up my clutch,
that was the scairy ride,
