Can someone answer these questions for me. In the max II is the 14 horse engine good enough to get me going through the woods and swamps without too many problems? I will definitly be using clear trails how fast will the 14 horse go? In your oppinion is the max II a reliable machine? Will it take two people who each weigh 220 ibs through water and swamp? Thank you

Jim, I've ridden with a friend who has an OLD Max II with an older engine in it. I'm not sure if it's 14HP, but it's really little compared to mine (20). When we rode together, he seemed to go through just about anything, up any hill, through any creek/mud banks just fine. The machine rev'd up a bit more to do some hills, but it always had enough kick to it. If you're doing clear trails, you should be fine. It won't be a speed machine by any means, but that's not really the strength of a 6x6 anyway. You should be fine. Reliability? As most of the Max heads here will tell you, and the Argo heads will remind you... these machines need maintenance. Mine really hasn't been any trouble, keep things lubed up, keep the chain at the proper tension and you should be fine. These things are the ultimate in low tech, Engine==>Belt==>Tranny==>Chain==>Sprockets==>Axles==>Tires or something like that. You can see everything out in the open, so it's actually prettty easy to work on. Extremely basic, simplicity versus complexity has it's advantages in the reliability department much of the time. You should be fine with a 14hp, it just won't be a 'Sport' model, but it should be lots of fun.

Have to agree with the 16hp suggestion. The inclusion of several quality upgrades that are standard on the 16hp model MAX II more than make up for the slightly higher price. The splined axles and o-ring chains are worth that extra dough. It will mean much less downtime and farting around later on down the line. The o-ring chain should last four or five time longer than the regular junk, with is a huge offset for the added 16hp cost. Plus, the 16hp is a little peppier.
