I was reading some old messages on the site and came across a discussion on Anchors. They were saying a Danforth Anchor works well to winch yourself out when there is nothing close by to hook your winch to.
My question is what size Danforth would you need for a Max II, (670lb empty). I know it depends a lot on the type of soil your on but has anyone had any personal experience with one of these? They also mentioned a device called a Pullpal. I looked it up on their Web site but it’s $275.00. The Danfield is anywhere from $15-$50 depending on the size you get.

My Coast Guard Auxiliary buddy in Kingman, AZ [the Colorado River is a Federal jurisdiction waterway] says that a Danforth anchor should be an excellent means of finding attachment for your winch when you are stuck. The Danforth anchor was originally developed to pull WWII landing craft off beaches. A 10-lb Danforth anchor should do nicely for a Max II. Contact a marine supplier such as West Marine [www.westmarine.com] for such an item. The Pullpal isn't something my buddy recognizes, and he does a lot of small boat handling, education, and activities.

I could have used that anchor over the weekend. Got my Max stuck for the first time in some real soft mud by a creek. I do carry 50ft of rope and a come-a-long. I was able to pull myself back with that but if I had wanted to go forward I had nothing to hook to,(no trees in the middle of the creek). I'm sending in some pictures this morning of my trip over the weekend if you want to see where I was stuck. One other thing I found out, everything I read on the site about not being able to walk where a 6X6 will go is true. When I got out of my machine to hook up the come-a-long, I sank in almost over my hunting boots. Had a great time! Going back next Sunday after Church with a friend that just bought a new Max. Can’t wait.
