I recently aquired a ATTEX 6X6. I am trying to find out what model it is. It has the T-20 transmission, modern 5 lug wheels, it had a 20 h.p. motor removed from it. I've looked at all the pictures on this site trying to determine my model. I have noticed that some of the ATTEX have grills on the front and some just have the name. Mine has the grill; is this model specific. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

DOSE IT HAVE 6 CHAINS OR ONLY 4?

It has 4 chains. 1 on each side of the transmission and 1 running three axles on each side.

If the grill is black with recesses formed into it, the machine is either a Cheif or Thunderchief (unless someone changed the grill). The engine you describe doesn't fit either machine, but that may well have been changed, too.

The grill is like that. What is the difference between the Chief and the Thunderchief? What motor should come with them? I am looking to go back with a B&S as a replacement; I am leaning toward the 31 h.p. Vanguard but I'm not sure about performance versus reliabilty for that motor. What horsepower rating was the factory motor on this machine?

The Chief came with a 400 JLO two-stroke twin, and the Thunderchief had a 440. Horsepower was 30 and 35 respectively. A four-stroke will be quieter and more reliable, but not as fast.
