G'day,
My name is Steve. We own 2 Attexs. I am worried about the Attex bodies lasting over the years. We can get away with fabricating mechanical items, but what happens when if we need to replace the bodies in the years to come???? Does anyone else have these concerns? I have a mate who has problems with cracks and the like at the moment. What happens in the future. I don't want to get rid of my Attex for a really, really long time (I want to take my great grandkids for a run in them).

Steve, I haven't tried this personally but, this process is used to build and repair plastic tanks that hold in excess of 2500 gallons of water. The tanks are welded together using a plastic welder. I know of two sources: J.C.Whitney -www.jcwhitneyusa.com /and Eastwood Tools and Supplies - www.eastwoodco.com / If you try this route or anyone out there has...I would be very interested in the results. I HAVE TRYED THE WELDER,I HAD NO LUCK WITH IT,IF YOUR ATTEX IS POLYETHELINE THEN MAYBE THE WELDER IS THE WAY TO GO...A FREIND HAD SUGESTED IT WHEN I WAS HELPING HIM WITH HIS CHAPARRAL6X6 (IT'S BODY WAS BADLY DAMAGED ON AN OUTING OF OURS) THE WELD KEPT CRACKING UNDER STRESS,INSTED I COMPLEATED REPAIRS THE TRYED&TRUE WAY, ATTEX DEALERS USED TO SELL A REPAIR MATIRIAL. ESENCALY A SELF CURING LIQUID ABS PLASTIC THAT CAN BE ADDED TO CLEAND AND PREPAIRD CRACK OR HOLE THAT DRIES INTO A PERFECT CEM-WELDED REPAIR.(FOR HOLE USE DUCT TAPE AS BACKING)I WORKED FOR YEARS TO RECREAT THE STUFF BUT IF I ASKED AROWND SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME HOW SOONER.I STILL CANT QITE GET THE COLOR BUT IT WORKS GREAT, IVE FIXED FLOOR PANS ON 3 ATTEXES, 2 AMPIBICATS, AND 1 CHAPARREL! AND THE BODIES ON SAME, ON1 AMPHICATT & THE CHAPARREL THE BODIES WHER BACICLY DESTROID!!REPAIR SHOULD BE BILT UP IN THIN LAYERS TO DRY CORRECTLY BETWEEN COATS,PREPAIRD AND COATED AGENE,THE REPAIR IS COMPLEETED BY SANDING SMOTHE WITH DRYWALL SANDPAPER THE MORE WORN OUT THE PAPER GETS THE NICER IT WORKS,OR SO IT SEMED TO ME!!GOOD LUCK!! David, Do you know if that Attex goo is still made? If so where can I get some. If I don't have to buy a body for my Max, I'm going to squander it on a bigger engine, or even maybe a hydro conversion. Seriously, this stuff sounds great! Thanks, Vance PS I would like to try the hydro thing.

ALL MADE FRM MATIRIAL I GOT FROM WORK, I WAS EXP, WITH COLORS ECT... ANY MORE I WILL PROBUBLY HAVE TO ORDER FROM COS.CHEM, 50 LBS BAGS OF QUALITY ABS ARE NOT CHEAP SO ALL I HAVE IS WHATS LEFT OVER WHEN MY CO. DOSE SOME SAMPLING IN ABS. Has anyone tried the two part adhesive in a chalk type gun. It is used in auto body repair to secure plastic body panels together. I have use it on a boat live well and it works great. I am going to try it on my amphicat. Any suggestions? It is made by 3m.

RICK, WHAT SORT OF DAMAGE ARE YOU TRYING TO FIX? SMALL HOLES OR CRACKS THAT MAY LEAK WATER INTO HULL? OR MAYBE SMALL - LARGE CRACK IN CORNER OR SUPORT AREA? TO WATERPROFE A CRACK I THINK I WOULD DRILL SMALL HOLES AT ENDS OF CRACKS TO TRY TO STOP THEM FROM SPREDING, THEN SEAL AS YOU WOULD. TO REALY FIX IT I USE ABS REPAIR STUFF.IS YOURS ABS? TO FIND OUT TRY RUBING AN ACETONE SOAKED RAG (REALY SMALL ONE)ON INSIDE OF ENGINE COVER FOR 30 OR 40 SECONDS, DOSE THE PLASTIC SOFTEN OR MELT (IS SOME OF THE PLASTIC ON THE RAG) IF NOT OR IF THAIR IS NO REACTION TO ACETONE THAN IT IS NOT ABS! I have had some success patching plastic materials
with marine two-part epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth. You need to try a small area to see if the epoxy will adhere to the surface.
