The front right side of my chain will not run true to the front sprocket. Where it comes from the idler, and passes through the bulkhead, it angles a bit to go under chain adjuster, and then to front sprocket. I did notice middle axle was wandering out from tub (by noticing locking collar position) It has left me stranded once, in a pretty deep mud hole of course. I did knock the axle back in, but it may do it again. What is the fix for this? Older Max II.

if you can make some sort of spacer thats tight enope to axel not to get froze but enoph to hold drve tube away from bearing and yet small enoph not to hit wrong parts of bearing and deep enoph to hold the drive tube correct distance from bearing even if there wasent a locking coller than that would do the trick,
i was looking into polypro 1/2" sheets for these so they cant rust to the axel, i thiought id use hole saw to cut one diamiter than screw the discs to another sheet with sheetrock screwqs and use another size hole saw to finish them off,
but have only half baked this idea so far,
maybe file out an old lock ring and use it for the spacer inside between the bearing and drive tube,

Yeah, I've racked my brain, too. I see where it has been doing this for a while looking at wear marks on the bulkhead pieces. This is a winter project, I think. We don't ride too much in winter, mostly cause 20 below is pretty hard to overcome even with a cover. If it holds through Moose season, I'll be happy. I'll just keep a beater bar, and a hammer in the toolbox with me, and a set of gloves for the greasy chain. Maybe I'll figure out something. BTW, I just love the web site, and the lack of popup ads is kinda ...peaceful, yes?

c.mcnamee, Check your lock collar and make sure it is tight (and not broken). If your lock collar is intact and tight, the axle should stay put. If the lip is broken off your bearing (place lock collar grips) you will have to replace the bearing or do a "Rube Goldberg" as david berger has proposed. You do want to attend to the problem as side strain is hard on chains and if it slips enough to slip out of the inner bushing, you will have a problem.

Right, and the lock collar is Where?..seriously, I remember the part, but if it's the one outside on the axle, I did retighten it. If it's inside the tub, that'll take some digging. It hasn't run out since last I tightened it, but I won't trust it on a long run from the house yet.

The lock collar on the older machines breaks easy. Take the tire off and look to see that the "cam action" lock collar is intact. You can also get some large washers(1.25 inch)and put them inside the machine on the axle between the sprocket tube and the outer bearing.

O.k, that makes a little more sense. I got a whole slough of parts with this thing. I'll give that a shot.
