I have the same engine, and 8x8 magnum, 18hp kohler. Mine always runs hot after a bit of use. Since they are air cooled, if the air is hot, the engine won't cool down very fast. I have had mine up to the second last notch at the top of the oil temp gauge. One thing that I find helps is to run at about half to 3/4 throttle for a while and it will not heat up as much.

That is a bit out of my legue! My forte is not engines. It is driving the hell out of my argo!

what you guy's need to do is put more fuel than air into your mills. on the low side screw in the air and the open, the main, a bigger size. this should cool it some what in the high temperatures. a cheapman's repair (road wolf & attex bob) is to go down a few notch's to a real colder spark plug.

Hi Dale
If you have the Kohler carb (not the walbro) the settings are 2 1/2 turns for the main fuel needle and 1 turn for the idle needle, to start with .
The float setting is 11/64 between the float & carb body with the carb inverted & the float tab resting on the inlet needle.
I have tried many things to reduce overheating and one thing that seemed to help is going to a 5/50 synthetic oil & a remote oil filter available from Kohler.

Talk to Don at WILBERS KNIFE AND ARGO WORLD in Carson City, NV.... (775 Area code...he is on California Street. ) He has done some reporting of carbs to handle the altitude and the engine braking backfires on some of the Argos...He may have some ideas. I got a water cooled 20 HP Kawai engine due to the heat in Nevada. If you are going to be running your vehicle in temps over 100, going with a water cooled engine is the best bet. If you are driving with your windshield down,,,taking the engine cover off helps.

Sounds to me like another advantage Max has over Argo (Max work fine no matter how hot - and the heat that is there is behind you rather than "right under your nose"). Chalk up more points for the more efficient T-20 tranny and the advantage of lighter weight.
