How do you grease the bearings under the trans on a bigfoot
By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
pete,
alot of auto parts stores sell adapters for your grease gun to reach and grease these bearings. instead of going over the nipple like you normally would, it slides over it from the side. is what i did, is bought one of the small grease guns at walmart, with the steel tube (non-flexible) and screwed the adapter on that. all i have to due is shine a flashlight down inbetween the sprocket and tranny and the grease gun having the nonflexible tube allows me to push the adapter right over the nipple. A regular rubber hose gun will work but it is a real headache. It only takes me a couple seconds to do both bearings. if you need any more help or have more questions let me know. Are you going to be at the badlands this weekend? if you are I will have it their and you can look at it.

I have an older ARGO MAGNUM 8x8. The back left roller chain that drives the two left back wheeles is very loose. The tensioner is taking up the slack but I think it have taken up all it can. The part of the frame just in front of the gear type thing that the chain runs on is coming in constant contact with the chain. At higher speeds, it doesn't ride it but turning when it moves it starts rubbing. Does this mean that the tensioner isn't taking up the rest of the slack or its at the end. If its at the end, do I have to replace the chain or can I take out some links in the chain and make it tight again. If its too tight, is it bad? Also, if the tensioner is still pulling the chain down because it has stretched so much, is it going to cause power reduction to these wheeles? How do I take the links out of these chains?

david,
do not remove links as it will change the pitch of the chain and will wear out your sprockets. You need new chain as the chain in their is stretched to its limit.

How much are the chains? Are all the chains that drive the same size? (roller chains) I think the MAGNUM used #50 chain and can I still get this from the factory?
