Just wanted to know what type of motor works best for an Argo 8x8. I know they recommend no bigger than a 9.9 horse. But was wondering is anyone has used a trolling motor with foot or remote control and how it worked.

Thanks,Dan

Dan -

I used a 24 lbs thrust trolling motor on my VanguardII. Initially we had a problem with the prop getting too close to the surface an sucking in air. I think the motor will prove too small for my Response, but I haven't had a chance to try it. The main thing you will need is a shaft long enough to keep the prop from pulling in air.

I used a Mercury 5hp four stroke on a Conquest. It worked real well and pushed the 8x8 with four people at a decent speed. It is real handy because it can run on the same gas tank as your ATV. Lots of run time, no dead batteries, and no mixing gas and oil.

I like the idea of the four stroke.

Thanks,Dan

On Argo 6x6 models I use a Tohatsu 3.5hp 2 stroke. It weighs only 28lbs and has its own fuel tank. Shaft length needs to be 20". On Bigfoot models I trim the outboard support mount height to increase prop depth to prevent cavitation. Nissian & Mercury 3.5hp models are the same as the Tohatsu. I have not tried this combo on a 8x8 but I believe it should work fine.
