Soon I am going to have to replace all my Max IV chains, but right now I have one chain specifically in need of immediate repair. This chain has what looks to be a bent link that appears close to breaking. My nearby Lowes has repair links. How do I get the chain off the Max and how do I get the bad link off and replaced ?

find the master link, take off the retaining clip, then remove the side plate ( looks like an 8)slide the link pins out,and your chain is apart.to remove the bad link, you will need to get a chain breaker.you should be able to get one at any motorcycle shop. when you get your new link put it in the chain holes and make sure it moves freely,or you could have more trouble than you want.if all is good ( now this is what i do )put your chain in a vice and ssssllllloooooowwwwwly squeeze the link pieces together untill it seats.then put the chain back on the sprockets and do a reverse on the masterlink.chances are that if lowes sells the links, they may also sell a chain breaker. hope this helps.

Easy ! Just take the Max IV to Lowe's and have the same idiot that helped me at the paint department color match the chain for you.He should mess up so bad the chain will fall right off. :P
Look on the sides of the chain for a clip in the shape of a flat C.It will be on one side or the other of the chain,Then just pop it off with a flat screw driver - or rather push on the end of the C with the flat tip.
If you know what type of chain it is already then buy the replacement clips first, now you have a visual referance in your hand.
To replace a bent link ? I use a metal cut off wheel for the skill saw, clamp the chain down & grind the little stubs off till you can remove a link.
I'd just replace the chain while your at it , One box of type #40 chain I use is enough for two chains on mine.
