I have a 1996 MAX IV with a 20 hp Kohler. Last fall the fuel gauge rusted and I had to dis-assemble the carb to clean it. It runs great now but I cannot get it to idle slow enough to completely disengage the torque converter. Right on verge of getting it slow enough, the engine dies. Any suggestions ?

pat, sounds like the lowspeed circuit might have some crud in it. it could also be a clogged pilot jet, you didn't say what kind of carb you have.
another thing it might be, if you have an adjustable air screw it may be closed or too far open. 2 turns out should be right.
GO ARMY!

I cleaned the carb just recently. It has fixed jets for low and high speed. Maybe did'nt clean it good enough. Only adjustment on my carb is the idle speed.
