beleave it or not just to the body of uper half,
you can make a backing plate though, sounds like a good idea, pull out your tank first, so you can see what your doin,
some people build aditianal suport though, like plates on outside, i have sean some built like frount bumpers with a winch on top, check out peopls pics on route 6x6 photo section or go to a 6x6 rideing event and bring your camera and tape mesher along

I just finished mine last night. i used 2 3/16 thick plates of steel approx the size of a auto license plate. One behind the and one in front.I used four 3/8 bolts with big fender washers on the back side plate, the one that gets all the pulling on it.However I did weld a 1 1/2 wide 3/16 thick by approx 2ft long flat peice of steel to the front plat that lays allong the top seem of the body ,I also have the same peice of steel under the seem lip.then drilled holes in them for the seem bolts to fasten the 2 strips of steel togather.i did drill 2 extra hols for more strength at the seem this way I'm not only pulling on the front top lid ( scary ) but also pulling allong the whole front seem , ( much stronger). One thing I didn't do yet is to weld a hook tho the winch plat just in case you have to use a snatch block to double your pulling power.Remember most all winches pulling power are rated with a snatch block so a 2000lb winch only pulls 1000lbs with out a snatch block.Sounds like a 3000 watt speeker thats is only 200 watts huh It's misguiding if you don't know what the ohms are.It doesnt seem right to never mention you need a snatch block on the packedging in order to get full advertised pulling power.Hope this is help full.

HEY GUYS THEIR IS ONLY ONE WAY TO DO THIS, FAB A INSIDE FRAME THAT WOULD RUN ALONG THE INSIDE BODY FROM UNDER THE SEAT TO THE FRONT OF THE MAX2 BODY. ATTACH THIS NEW FRAME TO A MOUNTING PLATE ON THE INSIDE OF THE BODY. NOW YOU CAN BOLT THE WINCH THROUGH THE PLASTIC BODY.
JUST BOLTING THROUGH THE PLASTIC BODY ONLY IS RISKY. THE FIRST TIME YOU NEED THE WINCH, JUST WATCH FROM THE SIDE OF THE MAX AS THE BODY PULLS OUT OF SHAPE. MOST PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH THIS BY ONLY USING A 1000 LB OR 1500 LB WINCH. BUT ANY MORE PULL CAN GIVE YOU A NEW AIR VENT IN THE FRONT.
ALSO DONT SET IN THE SEAT WHILE USING THE WENCH. THE WINCH CABLE CAN FAIL AND SNAP BACK INTO THE MAX SEATING AREA. (ALWAYS STAND TO THE SIDE)
