I have a 1999 Max II with a 16hp Briggs. I rode about 16 mile yesterday and I noticed my GPS said I was goin about 19.5 mph on flat land wide open. I also ride with two other guys that have Max IIs and they are not any faster. Is this about right?

That Max should go about 27mph. Depending on the quality of your GPS, some units are not very accurate on speed. I like to have a vehicle follow that you know has an accurate speedo. I checked my truck on one of those roadside police radar signs. I then followed my friend on his 400EX and clocked him at only 78mph.

I think we sould compare one of these 19mph machines to a car speedometer.

IF YOUR WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK OF VOIDING WARENTEE
YOU CAN BYPASS THE GOVENER,
ITS FOR GENERATORS AND WATER PUMPS ANYWAY,
NOT FOR VEHICLES(UNLESS ITS YOUR WIFES OR KIDS)
IT'S NOT TOO TOUGH TO FIGURE OUT BUT THINK LONG ABOUT IT, JUST BE SHUR TO KEEP A HEAVY SPRING ON THE ARM THAT COMES OUT OF BLOCK!IT'S HOLDING INTERNAL PARTS THAT IF NOT CEPT UNDER CONTROLE MIGHT COME BLASTING OUT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK SO DO REMEMBER TO KEEP A SPRING ON THAT ARM!
MOST PEOPLE ADD A PIECE OF COAT HANGER TO THE CARB MAKEING A DIRECT CONECTION FROM THE BELCRANK(HAS THROTLE CABLE ATACHED TO IT) TO THE CARB THROTLE PLATE ARM, YOU MAY NEED TO RUN THE THROTLE BACK AND FORTH A FEW TIMES AND THE CARB THROTLE PLATE ARM A FEW TIMES TO CALCULATE THE CORECT POSITION FOR A NEW 1/8" HOLE IN THE BELCRANK THAT WILL GIVE YOU A FULLY ADVANCED THROTLE PLATE MOVEMENT AT A RESONABLE HAND CONTROLE MOVEMENT AND STILL ALOW FOR FULL RETRACTION OF BOTH, ITS BEST TO VEIW ANOTHER PERSONS WORK TO SEE WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT FIRST IF POSABLE, IF YOUR CLOASE ENOPH BY TOO TIM SCHOTANUS OR TIM OKEEFE YOU CAN CHECK THERES, THEY ARE BOTH PRITY MUCH BULET PROOOF BYPASSES THAT WORK GREAT FOR RELEASING YOUR ENGINES TRUE POTENTIAL PERFORMANCE,
REMEMBER THOUGH ONLY REV THE ENGINE UNDER A LOAD, NEVER JUST TO HEAR IT ROAR!

I noticed a clear difference(though not that bad) between the speed my Max II 18hp has when I am driving it alone and when a friend is riding with me. My friend weighs about 170lbs. I was wondering if this is a sign the engine is not opperating as it should or if this is to be expected?

Thanks,

Hap

Hap: Everything is ok. I could tell a difference in the performance of my car when someone rode with me, and it had 400 hp. So when I raced it; "no passengers were allowed"!!! Just remember, HP is so much weight lifted in so much time.

I have a max4 with 30+ hp and I can tell the differance when people ride with me. Hey newmax, if we ever ride I would like to check my speed with your gps.

I just did my stopwatch method and calculated a speed of 48 MPH in my Attex. I measured 1/4 mile near my house, and put two milk jugs by the side of the road - one at the start and another at the finish. First I accelarate to speed then I activated the stop watch after running over the first jug, then stopped it after hitting the next jug. Silly but it works well!!

Thats really fast for an open amphibious AATV. I don't think I would want to be going that fast in an ARGO MAGNUM.
