What is top speed of 2001 Max II with new Kohler engine?? Anybody know??

About 30mph, same as the 18hp Briggs. The Kohler has more power and accellerates much faster.

I,ve been making lots and lots of new trails and also interconnecting existing trails , each and every time I take my Max IV out. I usually cut trails for 5-6 hours each time I go out. Each and every time,that I take my Max out,I am more and more impressed at the places that I am now able to take it with ease.

The places that I now am able to take my Max IV 900T with confidence,continues to amaze me.

In the past,when I owned my Polaris 500 Sportsman,I would have:

1. Hesitated
2. Thought for a while
3. Took very serious consideration
4. Said " NO WAY "

These are now the places I can now take my Max in complete confidence,with out fear of sinking or bogging down in the mud.

Sure, I,ve some times got myself stuck in some very thick mud, but ,I,ve also learned from Brandon,to rock my Max side to side and "most of the time" get myself unstuck.

But,if that idea dont work,I use "another" Brandon Price trick. I plastic tie strap to lock my throttle at a slow wheel speed and then rock my Max side to side,using my roll bar. This has worked most of the time.

But,if that idea dont work, I still use the tie stap on the throttle,but,I then get out of my Max to unweight the body. This will then lower the "psi" on the ground,and make it much easier to get my Max unstuck. I also push forward against the roll bar,on the side I,m on, as I try to get my Max unstuck.

And, if those ideas still dont work, I then get out my "grubing hoe". This tool has pick on one end and a 4 inch digging blade on the other end.I use this to knock down any high mound of dirt that is in front of my Max,that is stopping my foward momentum.

And,if all this still dont work,I then use my 2500 warn winch. But,if by chance,my warn winch ever fails me,I then get out my "come a long", and rachet myself out,with additional 45 ft of nylon cable.

hay mud bud ever put a rope around a wheel and tie it of to a tree and let the tire winch ya out it works in a pinch but dont do this with to low of tire pressure. but now i have key wayed aluminun locking collars with 3/4" x 1" round stock heliarced to the collars both front and both rear axels thats my winch and a few tow straps. max should do this from the factory the cost would be at very minium with the winch built in the axels and 1/3 of the wasted weight by having a heavy winch

Thats a great idea to consider! If remember correctly, I think Fred also uses this same idea himself,but instead of a rope,I think Fred uses a flat nylon strap instead? I am currently running only 2 pds of air in each of the Gators tires that I have recently istalled. Is this too low of an air pressure use this idea?

If you are using only one wheel axle,to function as a "wheel winch", can this put enough strain on the one axle being used,to stress and bend it over time?

I am now wondering,how exactly you tire the rope or strap around an axle, so the rope or strap will not slip when you try to pull yourself out"

I remember a company that advertised in a major ATV magazine many years ago that sold a fixture that you could attach to your wheel axle studs ,that would work as a wheel winch.

I think you could make one yourself very easily.

All you would need would be:

1. two round circular 1/8 inch plates the exact same circumference of your wheel studs and at the exact same spacing around the flat plate you used.

One would be for the top side,and one would be for the bottom side. Each end would mirror the other, in the exact same hole spacing.

2.The two peices previously cut,would then be welded to a round peice of tubing about 3 inches in diameter,4-5 inches long,that had a hole in it,for the rope to fit into. This would allow the rope to spool up, and not slip when used as a wheel winch.

The finished peice made would then be attached the wheel studs, that hold on each wheel rim.

Another trick that I,ve learned to get my Max unstuck, is to remove my winsheild and sit on the very front edge of my Max IV, with my knees facing rearward and work the throttle from this position.

If this does,nt work,I then use a plactic tie strap to hold the throttle open, at a "very slow" wheel speed,just enough for forward momentum. I then stand on the very front edge of my Max IV, with my knees facing towards the rear of my Max. I then use my body weight to rock my Max IV side to side, using the roll bar for hand support.

This trick unloads almost all of my body weight off the wheels,enabling my Max to pull itself out much easier. This trick works really good!

mudbug i know how to grab your axel or axels to pull aatv withought it wraping arround axel in the prosses,
this is something i lernd from an old time aatv'r

it's so simple you will wonder why you dident think of it yourself!
we might all have sean the little "S" hooks used to hold holaday tree decorations to the tree,
well you simply make them from 1/2" re-bar aprox 3 foot piece bent in hook at each end.
(opstes sides for S shape)
leave at least one hook end open at least 2" for easy snagging of axel, the remaining end will have the rope or flat strap on it,
you can make 2 of these hooks and snag both sides of your aatv, atv, snowmobile, you name it,
for easy and strait pull!

Yes, David, I use web straps around my tires as a winch. They attach real easily on the old 12" rims as they have slots - just slip the web strap through the slots and tie it off with a quick release knot (I use a cinch knot with the end doubled back) making sure the strap is in the middle of the tire tread. It is a little harder with the k-rims and old 8" rims as you have to go around the whole circumference of the tire and use a slip knot (a timber hitch works best). Low PSI in the tire doesn't matter with the web straps as you go around the middle of the tire sucking it in equally and actually putting more pressure on the bead area as is done when using a mounting band to get a tough tire to take air. I use both fronts or both rears and try to pull straight away so the web strap stays on the tire, but I think one wheel would work if you weren't very stuck. I don't think there is any risk of damage to the axles.
