well i was going to start a new string and call it the true angle finders club, too join you must get a real angle finder(people here have called it a clinometer, tilt meter, inclinometer,) well lets all get the same gage if poseble OK?
drsam told me his was an egocrusher, i got one of his, i went out and found some hils i have climbed with pasengers were only 30* - 33*
not what i called gas tank kissing steep but i did think thay were steeper than that,
SO HOW ABOUT IT, CAN'T WE ALL "GET THE TECH" AND POST TRUE ANGLES,it will make things more interesting won't it,if you cant find one try e-mailing drsam@ix.netcom.com he has plenty of them and there perfict for the job,
somday soon i'll try and meshure one of thoughs gas tank kissing hills i climbed!! and post it here or on a new string called:

OK let me be the first to post my ego crushing discovery.
I took my inclinometer out expecting to have no trouble going up a 45* hill
Actually I was hoping to post that I did a 60* hill.

Much to my surprise and disappointment I found out this.
A 20 degree is a nice hill, 25 degree is steep, I don't believe it will go up
a 30 degree grade and I am to apprehensive to try it.

Maybe with a lot of speed you could do a 30 degree
but, I would think it would go over backwards, 45 degree has to be
impossible.
This was what I came back with on that truthful day.

David since has gone up a 33* so I guess that means he has bigger ones then I do.
Or at least a lot more experience and a better feel for the machine.
I was driving my Max 4
next I want to take out my Hustler which has better hill climbing performance
( or at least I think so) What do you guys think?

I looked at a hill that was being surveyed by a land survey crew. The guy there in charge told me the hill was 49.38 degrees. Man, there's no way I would try it in my conquest. With a naked eye, I would have guess more like 65 to 70 degrees. I would have to seriously doubt anyone who claims they've climbed greater than 45 degrees.

I f you have the right surface even a 60 degree is possible, we used to climb granite rock faces that were too steep to walk up with our jeeps, If in doubt just look up some of the trails in Moab Utah That surface was like 40 grit sandpaper

aaaah! but here is what were asking, get an acurat meeter, climb and then meashure, and only then bother us with how many* if people beleave 60* is done randemly by all sombody will get hurt trying, and for what, let's not guess or aproximate something this simple,also a tape meashure too as the more details the better, we can all get an idea of the profile of the hill climbed, for instance my favoret climb meshurd out to 30' @20* at the base then 30* to 33* along a 123' strech to the top, its a clay sufice with lots of small loose stones and a little light brush & grass for fiber, its inconsistant and too tretcherost to decend, did i forget to mention the deep ruts at the bottem?well 6x6 vehicls tend to run away and careen out of control down steep long loose grades like this, its shure fun to climb but then you wonder why you did it!LOL

Does anyone know at what angle the Briggs 18HP engine will start to starve for fuel? The engine is in an Argo Bigfoot.

We just measured a small hill around us, at a neat 62 degrees. It looks a bit vertical to try, but try we must. A friends Max2 made a valliant effort but mostly spun it's tires until it was backed down. No luck. I think Jim had to change his pants after trying, I wasn't up to it on a Max. I however DID give it a go on my Suzuki quad runner, with a short headstart since I knew traction wouldn't make it there. I made it on speed and enertia alone, but it was losing power on it and if it didn't inch over the top, I would have been tumbling down with it. On traction alone, no chance. It felt like I was going vertical.

Ok now youve got me curious to see how steep the hills are we climb in alaska to caribou hunt ive rolled my max4 three times and i now know to come down backwards on the really steep hills i would like to get your true angle finder and see i have some good moives and pics that have a high pucker facter i do know that coming down real bad hills at a crawl if you hit your steering lever brakes it will roll going forward so now i back down and can stay in control

David thanks for the address i will get one on the way then ill try it out and see if our hills are bad or im a big baby.looking at my topo map we go from 1500ft to 3851ft in less than two miles and the view from the top is great.Its fun reading what you guys in the states do with your buggys,this is a nice site have fun TJ

I have an ARGO Bigfoot. Living in the Pocono's of PA there are plenty of hills and inclines on my property. I bought a Dual angle clinometer we call the "rolly polly gauge" It will read up to 45 degree angles. I have had it to 35 and would not want to go any more than that. 30 Degrees side to side is also plenty..

I had the rear wheals of my max4 on 44 deg.and my nose up against a 2foot 90 deg. headwall and made it(without flipping) A friend that was with me made me stop so he could get out first(wimp).(angles are figured by Dave Berger)

i bought a clinometer and installed it today.it reads pitch and roll. i was going over some snow banks before and i thought they were extreamly steep. well today i went out after installing my meter and the bank was only 25*. so i tried going up another bank that i was scared to try before. i made it up it was 35*. it was scary i thought i was going straight up. i really find it hard to believe people are going up or down more that 45* hills.
