What is the maximum wattage for extra lights on a max II? Within the next month or so I'll be getting a Max II and wanted to add extra lights to it because of where I ride, (dense woods in northern vermont).

thanks
Bri

BKNIGHT,YOU DON'T NEED TOO SEE FOR A MILE SO HALOGENS ARNT NESESARY, EXTRA FORWARD LIGHTS ARE NICE BUT..YOU WILL NEED TOO ADD SOME ANGLED AWAY FROM JUST FORWARD TO GIVE YOU MORE OF A HORIZEN, IN THIS WAY WHEN YOUR NOT POINTED AT A TRAIL YOUR NOT LOST AS YOU CAN STILL SEE IT,
IF THIS DOSENT MAKE SENCE TO YOU IT WILL IF YOU IGNORE IT.
SIDE LIGHTS DON'T HAVE TO BE REAL BRIGHT,
IT'S NICE TO HAVE LIGHTS ON THE SIDES BUT LIFE FOR AN AUG. LIGHT IS TOUGH AND MINE WHERE DESTROID, I NEED GET NEW ONES MYSELF

I've got a 98 Max II with the round lights. Does anyone know of a direct replacement Halogen light that would work?

I just go down to the auto parts store with the headlight, I believe the number is 5013

Thanks,
I checked the Max owner's manual and it says GE 4414, 18 Watt. I stopped by an auto parts store and tried to find that light or a halogen substitute and after 15 minutes of trying to find either, the clerk and I gave up. I tried to find a GE 4414 on the internet, including GE's web site also to no avail. I will try again with 5013! Thanks again for the info.

Hey, Jeff!
I recently replaced my MAX II headlights with a pair of Wagner brand lamps (stock #4411, 35watt, 12.8amps). I picked them up at my local NAPA store. Identical in size and fit to the stock R.I. lamps. They fit perfectly and wow, are they BRIGHT!!!

Hi Harry,
35 watts at 12 volts should be about 3 amps per lamp. even if the lamps were 6 volts they would draw only 6 amps . do max's have 6 or 12 volt systems???????????

All MAXes are 12 volt vehicles. I can't speak for the older, 2-stroke models, but the 4-strokers use 12 volt batteries.

Ok back to the original question. Maximum wattage, if the machine has a 12 volt system. Approximately what is left over to use for extra electrical accessories (i.e. winch, lights, bilge pump), and have the machine still generate enough umph to keep the battery charged? Are there alternator kits available for these briggs engines (if so where, who has them)? Or, would a deep well marine battery be more efficient?

thanks
Bri

Thanks Harry!
I will check with the local NAPA for the Wagner #4411 lamps. I figured out that the current lamps were made by Wagner by pulling one out of the MAX and inspecting it, but I was not sure where to get them.

Thanks again for the info!
Jeff

Most briggs 18hp motors have a 16 or a 20 amp charging system. Mine has the 20 amp and i have the orginal head lights in the body and a set of 55 watt driving lights on the top of my roll cage. I have never had a problem. So I draw about 12 amps with all lights on. and boy dose It light up the night. but mostly run with the low beams on untel I need some major light. try it you will like it.

lawpressman,
do u now how many amps the over head lights you put on top of your roll cage take up?

anyone,
I know any thing is possible but how hard do you think it would be to put a car altornater on on the engine or just any altanator bigger then the 20, I'm asking this because I'd like to put 4-6 extra lights on it and a marine sound systeme.

PRESTON BLAKE. THE LIGHTS I USED WERE 55 WATT EACH. SO 2 X 55 =110WATTS DIV.BY 12 VOLTS= 9 AMPS TOTAL. I WOULD JUST INSTALL A LARGER BATTERY TO RUN ALL THE LIGHTS YOU WANT.
YOU COULD INSTALL A ALTERNATOR VERY EASY AND CHEAP. YOU COULD USE THE CENTER BOLT OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER, TO BOLT ON A 2" PULLEY TO RUN THE ALTERNATOR. USE A ONE WIRE ALTERNATOR FROM A GM CAR.

i know its not max related but has anyone else with an older ARGO (before the headlights were sealed with the rubber seals so its flush with the area around the light) had problems with headlight aim? My lights are aimed down a lot- i guess to light the immediate area down in front but when im on the road, you can only see a short distance in front of you on the road but you can't see anything above the hood level- light doesn't go that hi up- i tried shimming them so they were tilted up higher but it didn't work.
