Has anyone tried making a subframe that reaches up to the top shell on a max to which tow hooks could be attached?

I got to use my Argo Response as a winch this weekend. Our tractor (24 HP Kubota) would not start. A few of us tried pushing it out of the barn so we could load it on a trailer, but the final drive stuck. Argo to the rescue. I ran the tow chain from the Argo to the tractor, put the Argo in low, and quick as thought the tractor was out of the barn ready to be winched onto the trailer. Argos are wonderful machines!

I added a single tow hook to my Max II. I welded a tow hook to a 20 inch long 1.5 inch angle iron, and attached to the top front "lip" of the Max upper tub using 4 grade five bolts. The bolts run thru the lower tub front lip, and thru an oak board 1.5 by 20 inches that fills the recess under the front lip. This spreads out the stress that using the tow hook imparts to the tubs. It seems strong enough for towing, although I won't use it for dynamic "jerking" of the vehicle. I wanted it primarily for attaching a come-along.

Was that "break in the tow hook" or "break off the tow hook"??? By the way, I'm still working on my electrical problem, ie, not charging the battery. Should have it fixed soon. Let me know when we're ready for the trip.

I had a similar problem with my max not charging the battery. check the wires from the battery back to the engine. make sure they are plugged tightly into the connectors. After I bought mine from the dealer brand new it has a wire unplugged from the connector and wouldn't charge the battery while in operation. After some checking I located the problem and fixed it.

Don't the Max vehicles have a regulator on them to charge them while in use? I know the ARGO vehilces do but they aren't the strongest charging systems out there. The conquest uses an automotive charging system I believe, but the more load you are running, the harder it is on the system. IF you are using the winch a lot and lights etc, you may have to give the vehicle a good run to charge it back up.

Balduc The winch argo has is a 2500lb superwinch I do not know how well it works, I use a superwinch 2000atv on my Bigfoot and I wish I would have put a larger winch on instead.My next winch will be a Warn 2500lb and will have to change the winch mount a little to make it fit. The Argo mount is a good set up but is made to bolt the superwinch 2500lb to it.

i ended up getting the argo winch power kit dealer installed. i think he messed up on the wiring because mine works without the ingition on. Does any one else's work the same, or is it wired wrong from the dealer.

I have an old Magnum with the 18hp kohler in it. The winch works without the ignition on. I don't know how long it would have power though because the battery gets drained fast!

my dealer said he did that on purpose. for convence while loading i guess, to use the winch to tie the argo down.

Balduc When I installed my winch I also hooked it direct to the battery and then I got thinking that my kids may start fooling around with it when I,am not home and get hurt. Anyway I put a hidden switch in under the hood to solve that problem. Jerry

Hooking the winch directly to the battery will bypass any of the light gauge factory wiring. If you want to control it by the key switch, you will have to use a solenoid connected dierctly to the battery and the solenoid control wire would connect through a switch to the ignition key. I would recommend the hidden heavy duty switch in line going directly to the battery. I think my winch draws 40amp without a load. Be careful using a solenoid because they are not all rated for continuos duty meaning if you have power applied to it whenever the key is on, it will burn up. Actually burn up if there is no fuse or circuit breaker in line. Also the fuse or circuit breaker should be as close to the battery as possible. The fuse protects the cable, not the winch.

I got my tax check and i need to spend it before my wife does.Na just joken,but it does go away faster that i'm ready for.But i'm looken to get a new winch for the bigfoot.I want to get a Warn A2500.
