I have a briggs moter and a kohler as far as
dependible the briggs would be more dependible
I think but i might be wrong but kholer has
a good product usually my friend owns a small engine repair shop and he says that briggs is more dependible but i do agree with him
but yet kholer are strong moters.

I'm a big Attex fan but that great looking camo on the Max has finally got to me. I have a 500 Superchief now so, I realize the bigger the powerhouse the better. I was all ready to go put down money on a 20hp MaxII. Then I started to think Kohler vs. Briggs (18hp). I like the fact that you have the extra pull start feature on the Briggs. I'll be using this machine a lot to climb very long and steep grades with no run for it. Any 20hp and 18hp MaxII owners have any suggestions?

Wait for the Max II in 25hp Kohler. No contest!! Maybe in another year or two, Recreatives will put in the 26hp with fuel injection. No more fartin' around with a choke; just spin the key and go!
While the pull start feature is sort of a good idea to have, you'd better have Schwarzenegger stamina & strength. These buggers are hard to pull, and can wear you out FAST trying! I speak from experience. If you keep your battery charged, it should never be a problem. (D'oh!)

Why wait for RI, I've got my new Kohler 25hp and clutch and now just waiting for the time to put it in. You can even order the motor with a pull start or if you want add it later, but it has a high capacity charging system all ready so it shouldn't be needed. I'm with you Harry, ever since I saw the factory RI 25hp Max II @ the last Badlands run in September '01 I knew it was the best motor setup around. Can't wait to unleash all that stock HP to the ground! I've heard that the EFI motor still has some bugs to work out of the computer system controls(they don't hold up well to harsh enviroments), and that the 26 EFI engine is also the same as the 25 except has the fuel injection system to give another hp. The worst part is the price around $3,300 on the low side. Give Kohler and the rest more time to perfect, and we will all soon be running realiable EFI motors at reasonable prices.
