I just bought an amphicat in awesome shape, all new throughout. But the person I got it from did not drive it or hardly run it. When it came down to what the fuel mixture was he wasn't sure but said he had heard it was 25:1 and I was wondering if this is correct.

WELL IT WAS CORRECT 20 YEARS AGO WHEN FULE WAS MADE OF BENZINE INSTEAD OF ALCOHOL AND EITHER
(MY SPELLING IS INPROVING)
YOUR NOT LIKLY TO BE USING 40WT MOTOR OIL IN THE MIX NOW EATHER, NOW I USE 45/1 MOTOR BOAT 2 CYCLE OIL MYSELF WHEN ITS REALY HOT OUT AND 50/1 IN THE COOL WETHER, ITS A PREMIEM ASHLESS OIL, YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT THE MOTOR CYCLE 2 STROKE OILS THOUGH,
IT WAS SUGESTED TO ME BY MY MAXES PREVIOS OWNER THAT I USE 40/1 GOLDEN SPECTRO,
HE IS PROBLY RIGHT BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET IT,
NOW DON'T FORGET HI TEST GAS IS OFF LIMITS TO 2 CYCLES AS IT HAS TOO MUCH DETERGENT IN IT, MAYBE A MIDL GRADE FULE WITH REAL LEAD OCTAIN BOST IN IT, ANYONE HAVE A SUGESTION?

I have found 32:1 to be the best. I used to mix more oil but it just smokes way too much and is more likely to foul plugs. As little as 40:1 won't hurt it but 32:1 is best. 4 oz. of oil to every gallon of gas.

Thx for the info. as this is my first 6x6 and hope to learn alot more about them as they are more practical for me than a quad/atv. Finding parts here in Canada might be a tricky but will look to this great sight for help. Thx Again..David

David: I go with exactly what David suggests. I run a good two stroke oil and I also burn Trick racing gas (more for the smell than anything else). I have never had a problem with sticking a piston. I've had people call me stupid for running this lean of a mix........but.......I say it works for me!!!!! One thing to think about for all the high end oil crowd(20 to 1 or so): If you burn lots oil in your engine and start to loose power; you will probably have to replace your muffler. All of those little holes and baffles get clogged up with carbon and then your through. More than one engine has been torn down to find out nothing is wrong with it. Hey wait a minute!!!!!!! why does my muffler weigh 50 pounds????

i use on jlo-rockwell 20:1 ( 6.4oz per gallon.....32oz/quart on full tank)...no problem with spark..........but my ambiance temp always goes between 75-90 degree.......it's less expensive extra oil than premature engine failure
i get good result on tcw3 two cycles premix oil..makes some smoke when cold but as soon as gas trigger is on duty smoke get "clear"
well lubricated engines bouces better!!!!

HA HA HA, YUP SOUNDS LIKE WHAT HAPEND TO DORRY, FOR A TIME HERS WOULD NOT RUN WELL, IT TURNED OUT TO BE CARBON IN THE SPARK ARESTOR, SHE LIKES TO USE 20 TO 1, I HAVE SLOWLY GOTEN HER TO TRY A LEANER MIX SHES AT ABOUT 35 - 40 TO 1 NOW,
I'LL TELL HER IT WAS THE FULE/OIL MIX THAT KILLED HER SPARK ARESTOR,

you see david yaworski, if you have a clogged muffler, all you have to do is take it down to your friendly neighborhood "automotive machine shop" and have them hot-tank it over the weekend, it should lighten your pocketbook 'bout 10 dollars!
it sure is a lot cheaper than the price for a top end repair.
if 10 dollars is too much to spend, then simply toss it into a bondfire at your friendly neighborhood "rave party" for several hours, that should unclog it fer sure, just make sure it is cold to touch first.
