After some mental consideration,I,ve finally come up with a good idea where to store my trail tools. I,ve never really liked the idea of mounting a steel wire mesh box over the engine on a Max IV.

The reason being, because each and every time you want check your oil or want to clean underneath the engine for leaves,ect,you have to then remove it,and then reattach it.

My idea for carrying "trail tools" on a Max IV:

1: remove the rear seat of my Max IV

2: fabricate a steel box the length of my stock seat,out of either sqaure or round steel tubing.

3: weld steel "wire mesh" sides all the way around it.

4: fabricate some legs to support it,out of either round or square mild steel tubing.

5: attach it where the stock rear seat mounts to the frame.

Since I seldom carry any passengers with me,this works for me

We have added hinges to both seat bottoms the front has a box under the seat just tilt the seat up there you go and it is mounted above the floor so you still remove it when needed then the rear you can raise the seat to get to your chain adjustments and your battery works great and still have both seats incase you do have passangers www.funtothemax.com

One thing I really like about my Max IV,is that its so easy to modify the way you want individually. Its also very easy to work on,adjust the chains,clean out the whole inside of the tub.

I have not yet fabicated a suspended front seat yet,but I will in the near future.

Some of my seat suspension ideas:

Buy a hydrolic lawn tractor seat, that has 4-5 inches of suspension travel. Fabricate the front seat,so that it can slide up and down, 4-5 inches,on the 4 upright seat post, that now support it. You can accomplish this easily by welding steel tubing over each seat post,that has been cut off about 6-7 inches from the top.The tubing needed would have an iside diameter only slightly larger than the outside diameter of the 4 seat post, that you plan to cut off.The 4 cut off seat post, will now function as slider tube supports. With some fabricated steel brackets underneath the front seat,to support the hydrolic shock,you now have a seat that can slide up and down, with 4-5 inches of suspension travel,and it still looks factory.

The other idea I have,is a whole lot easier. Buy 2 harley solo seat springs and also a solo, front seat, metal pivot support. This will allow the seat to move up and down. buy these items from any harley after market catalog. Remove the drivers foam seat cushion.Cut a plywood rectangle out of the same thickness as the stock front seat plywood base. The new plywood cut peice, would be the same length in the front, as the stock plywood seat base,but the width would be about 14 inches wide, or according to your liking. You now have a spring seat with 3 1/2 inches of suspension.
