I wanted to tell everyone who thought about going but didn't that they really missed out! My cousin and I trucked up to the nice little town of Mio, Michigan to attend Superior Off-Road Vehicles' 5th Annual MAXARAMA last weekend (5/18-20). I've been meaning to post sooner, but as soon as I got back home I was blasted with tons 'o overtime.
The event was really great. The place we rode was the Big Creek Shooting Preserve & Sportsman's Club, a private 400 acre deer preserve, with something like 300+ whitetails running loose, plus some huge tom turkeys and ring-necked pheasant, too! The land was gorgeous, very clean and well-maintained. There were lots of nicely-groomed trails to ride and some swampy mud holes to play around in!!
We had a couple of night rides and a few riding contests. The whole weekend was kept simple and very informal, with folks riding wherever they felt like from sun up to well after sun down. The weather was awesome - high's in the upper 70's and low's in the lower 50's. Great camping weather, though my cousin and I were the only ones who tented the weekend.
Saturday afternoon our hosts had a big feast with tons of delicious deep-fried turkey (my first time eating turkey this way, but definately NOT my last! YUM!), salads, rolls, cake... a super feed!
I met a bunch of terrific folks, many of whom I've come across here on Route 6x6, that were just the best to ride with. [Hi! Larry, Chris & Al!!] The Ride was open to MAXes only, as it is sponsered by a MAX dealer, but it was kinda nice, as it eleminated the "Max vs. Argo" garbage that can be readily found on this board and that I encountered somewhat at Humphrey in '99.
I wish more people had shown up, but still in all we had somewhere around 40 or more riders over the three days. I look forward to next year's ride and I strongly encourage EVERYONE who's in the Tri-State (MI/OH/IN) area who owns a MAX to keep tabs on next year's ride and plan in advance! It was well, well worth the time, travel and expense.
I wanted to close with a big "THANK YOU" to event sponser/MAX dealer Les McClain and his terrific wife (a great cook!), and their son for their gracious hospitality and patience putting up with a bunch of crazy MAX riders. Thanks also to John & Joe from Recreatives Industries for some of the cool donated prizes and coming all the way from Buffalo, New York to share in our fun. And oh yes, for also showing up with their newest big bad experimental toy! (Oh, Man! I want one!!!)
MAX-A-RAMA WAS A BLAST!!! PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR, ALL YOU MAXers FROM Michigan, Ohio & Indiana!
WAAaaaaHooooooo!!!!!!!

Sounds like a great time, Harry. Michigan is a little far for me but I will be in Indiana in just two more weeks for the Badlands 6x6 ride. How many different machines showed up for the Max-a-Rama?
I am guessing you speak of the 25hp Max II as being RI's new experimental toy. I'm sure you took many, many pics...
Send in some pics of the Max-a-Rama to the photo gallery!
